Hi, I am Kevin.
I am a full time design engineer, a passionate reader, and an aspirational investor – on a mission, since 2020, to 100x my portfolio within 33 years.
And this blog is my attempt to :
– Document my learnings, experiments, mistakes, progress and experience along this 33 year journey.
– Develop long term thinking, better decision making, and design a life that compounds meaningfully – financially, and mentally.
– And in the process help and inspire others.
I am glad that so far, over 6000 readers have found my writings meaningful, and helpful.
My Story
I started my engineering career in 2016 on the limited time visa. Therefore my goal was to make the most out of it, and achieve financial freedom as soon as possible. However, I quickly realized that relying solely on my job income to achieve freedom wouldn’t be probable.
That led me to explore and try many things – saving more; increasing active income; different types of investing – dividend investing, trading, automated investing, speculative investing, value investing, private markets, etc. I ended up spending over 900 hours to study and pass all 3 levels of CFA.
Out of all the things I tried, value investing was the thing that I enjoyed the most. It is intellectually challenging, emotionally strengthening, and extremely rewarding if practiced well.
Therefore, in 2020, I gave myself a challenge to grow my portfolio 100x within 33 years, before I reach the retirement age. The math was simple – 15% annualized returns for 33 years will compound my portfolio 100 times.
5 years have already passed by, since I started playing this game of common sense and patience. And the experience has been hard, full of mistakes, and learning; At the same time quite rewarding – intellectually, and financially :
– I was able to achieve Financial Freedom in 2023, in just 7 years – much sooner than I ever imagined.
– And as of today, 5 years into the challenge (May 2020-Apr 2025), the portfolio has achieved annualized return (IRR) of 17% . $1 invested in 2020 has grown into ~$2.17. (Detailed breakdown in another blog soon)
