The journey of compounding wealth & happiness requires continuous learning. And what better way to learn than by reading high quality books (& other published content). So I thought, it would be a good idea to list down books that I have read, planning to read and also some recommendations from my readers that I think can help everyone. These are not just books about investing or saving, but covers a range of topics.
Investing & Investors
100 Baggers : Stocks That Return 100-to-1 and How To Find Them by Chris Mayer- This one is my personal favorite. In this book, Chris lays down the characteristics & nuances of 100 bagger companies. The book has studied the past to teach us how to find such opportunities in present & future. Read this book to understand the factors important for a great long term investment, rationale behind those factors and consider them while selecting your investments.
100 Baggers: Book Summary
The Most Important Thing by Howard Marks
Richer, Wiser, Happier: How the World’s Greatest Investors Win in Markets and Life by William Green
The Outsiders: Eight Unconventional CEOs and Their Radically Rational Blueprint for Success by William N. Thorndike Jr.
One Up On Wall Street: How To Use What You Already Know To Make Money In The Market by Peter Lynch
Beating the Street by Peter Lynch
The Little Book That Still Beats the Market by Joel Greenblatt : It’s a fun read. And if you are new to investing, this is one of the books to start with. It teaches us the importance of the 2 main factors that should be considered in an investment: Return on Capital & Debt/Equity ratio.
Berkshire Hathaway Annual Letters by Warren Buffet: Pure gold. If you are serious about learning how to invest and not outsourcing your investing, read this. This one is quite a long read. And as of 2023, there are 47 annual letters. Start with the 1977 letters and read them in order. It will help you see the journey of Berkshire Hathaway from the front row. You will get to learn about very basic but important concepts like Look-Through Earnings & many more. It will help you un-learn the faulty concepts of investing taught by Universities these days. And the best part, it is available for free on Berkshire Hathaway’s website
University of Berkshire Hathaway by Daniel Pecaut : This book is for lazy folks who don’t want to read through GOLD linked just above (Berkshire Hathaway original letters). It captures 30 Years of Lessons Learned from Warren Buffett & Charlie Munger at the Annual Shareholders Meeting. My advice to you would be to read those letters first. And if you enjoy & understand them, you might not need to read through this book.
Self Improvement
Deep Work: Everyone who is looking to improve their efficiency should read this book. It distinguishes between shallow work (one that produces no value) & deep work and shares methods that you can use to get in-the-zone to produce deep work. I can personally vouch for the methods mentioned in the book. This book is the reason why I have published so many blogs. Everyone should read it!!
Deep Work: Book Summary
The Magic of Thinking Big
The 80/20 Principle by Richard Koch : See Book Summary (Sort of)
Atomic Habits: This is one of the few books that I try to read every year. It elaborates on the science behind how habits are formed – Cue -> Craving -> Action -> Reward. Using this framework, it talks about how to break bad habits and develop good habits. You might not need to do everything that this book says. But I can guarantee that this book will change the way you do things, for better.
The Almanack of Naval Ravikant by Eric Jorgenson
Management
NO RULES RULES – Netflix & Culture of Reinvention by Erin Meyer : This one will shatter all your traditional beliefs about effective management & leadership style. In this book, the writer goes through the counter intuitive polices, virtues & framework used in Netflix that helped to build such a successful & innovative company with extremely talented and loyal workforce. I would recommend this to anyone who is or aspires to be a leader.
